Living The Dream is Scottie's Desire to give back to a Life that's been Amazing and Fruitful to Himself...

Scottie was born with Cystic Fibrosis in 1966... Diagnosed at age 3 Mo old, and brought to His attention by His Mother at the age of 12... CF has come along way since then in bringing many new treatments and medicines to help improve the lives of the inflicted... But the reality of CF is still the same; it's terminal... Cystic Fibrosis is the leading hereditary killer of Children around the World...

Scottie has lived his life in and out of Hospitals, always (from day 1) being admitted to the oncology wards at each different Hospital... Scottie has NEVER lived his life with CF being at the forefront of His Being though... His Heart and Mind has Always Strived to be as "Normal" as possible... He's had quite the Journey so far though, and continues to Make a Difference in His and Every Person He befriends Lives Daily... Scottie has a Great Deal of Compassion for All Chronic and Terminal Diseases; not just CF... He's been very close to Many that have Passed Away from different diseases and causes... He has tackled His Disease All These Years with the Most Positive Attitude One can have in His Situation... Scottie knows that this is the "Secret" to Enjoying Life to the Fullest, and wants and feels compelled to share this Message to The World...

Scottie Somers has been Very Fortunate to be able to Live The Dream of So Many "normal/non-afflicted" People... He's Always had the Fire of Life in Him for as Long as He's been Alive... He's been able to experience All the same things as anyone else could ever want to experience, and More... Scottie has always been a Vanguard/Leader throughout his Youth and into Adulthood... He see's things coming before they're here, and makes the change; never fearing the outcome... Scottie resides in Newport Beach, CA. , where He Believes that He Truly Lives in Paradise; and He Does... He's been in Newps for about 15 years now... At the Age of 29 (when most feel like they've missed the boat on so many things they've wanted to accomplish), Scottie took up playing the bass guitar, and at Age 32, Scottie and Life Time Best Friend Dennis Hill got a Major Label Record Deal with Interscope Records, along with Kenny Livingston and Lorenzo Giovanni, signed by Tom Whalley thru Freeze Management (Paul Gomez, John Reese, Bill Hardie and Greg Teal)... Scottie's band LEFTY was very fortunate to be able to tour for almost 4 years with most All of their Fav bands including some of the following: The Foo Fighters, NoDoubt, Lit, Good Charlotte, Fenix TX, Mest, Gold Finger, Unwritten Law, Blink 182, New Found Glory, Jimmy Eat World, Sugarcult, Butch Walker, GOB, Weezer, The Black Halos and Many Many More, as well as playing on 2 Warped Tours... In the 4 years that Scottie played with LEFTY, He Only Missed 3 Shows due to Being Too Sick... Scotties Friends came to His Rescue and filled in with LEFTY; Willy from Fenix TX, Benji from Good Charlotte, and Lorenzo from LEFTY all picked up the bass for Scottie, so that He could concentrate on just getting better... Scottie wasn't just sick these 3 times during that 4 year span... He actually played Many Shows Very Sick and on IV's, but You would have never known it; Scottie Always has a Smile on His Face Regardless... Thru Music, Scottie has met some Amazing People that have become Life Time Friends... Two of those Special People are Bob Hurley and Paul Gomez; Bob, Paul and Scottie continue to this Day to Nourish their Friendships with Each other, and Give back in Many Different ways to Kids around the World... Bob Hurley is Founder of Hurley, Paul Gomez is Senior VP of Hurley, and Now Scottie Somers has been newly appointed Director of Good Will Ambassador for Hurley (starting June 1st, 2007)...

How did this come about for Scottie? Scottie (like previously written) has always been an Innovator and Hard Worker... He Always gives no less than 100% to everything and all that He involves Himself in... He started making big strides in High School with His Art, always surprising the people around Him... Then later Scottie started working for an LTL Transportation Company at the age of 18, quickly catapulting to the Top, Helping to Run the Company by the age of 24... Scottie then fell into bad health, and was forced to enter into early retirement... Shortly after, Scottie decided to move to the Beach and Start a New Chapter in His Life... Scottie fell In-Love with Newport Beach; It was there that Scottie really started to play the Bass and Enjoy the Unity of being in a band and Creating Music with His Best Friend (since they've been 6 yrs old) Dennis Hill... Fast Forward: LEFTY gets signed, Tours, has Many Great/Fun Times, and then just like anything else in Life, it was time for LEFTY to wind down (the Industry had changed tremendously due to the burning of CD's, etc.)... It was then that Scottie decided (with the encouragement of Ryan and Brittany Hurley) to go into Hurley and give them the Best that He could Give... He Officially Started Hurley in 2003 (although He claims 1999; because He's been Sponsored, Representing and Sharing ideas With the Hurley Team, frequently visiting their Headquarters throughout the years anytime He was off the road)... At Hurley, Scottie started at the bottom; Which Scottie is Very Thankful for today... It was an Amazing, Humbling Experience that helped shape Him and Test His Leadership Skills all over again... And without disappointment, Scottie quickly Shined in Earning a Night Supervisor Position, then Dropping Down to Day Supervisor, and Soon after (within 2 Months), Supervising All 3 Warehouses that were at Hurley Headquarters back then... He then was offered a position in the I.T. (Information Technology) Department, where He Learned (with No Previous Experience) and Helped Hurley in many different ways, Shining Every Day... In I.T., Scottie out survived 2 of His Bosses, and His Bosses Boss, and actually gave a tour to John Hazen who now holds the Title "Director of I.T." for Hurley... Unfortunately, Scottie fell into bad health throughout the Year, and decided that it might be better for Himself and for Hurley for Him to go on a Long Term Disability that Hurley had set up for Him and Others that really need it... In Scotties 1 Year off from Hurley, He never was Really away from Hurley Heart and Soul... He continued to Give Tours of Hurley to Many people whenever He was called upon, Enjoying Each and Every One of Them... Scottie Loves People, Sharing and Meeting New Friends... During this time He also created a 1000 page website for a lighting company (having never built a website before), was offered the Opportunity to help start a high-end eyewear jewelry line from a prominent Eye Surgeon/Doctor in San Diego, etc... Scottie started a New Hurley MySpace page over Christmas Holiday 2006, because He was disappointed in the other, and knew that He could do better in Creating a Site that Better Describes Bob Hurley's Vision for Hurley; not the vision of an employee with little love for the Brand and Everything that Hurley stands for (He's no longer with Hurley)... This MySpace Site became the leader in its class in comments in the industry in 6 short Months... Scottie set out to accomplish Many of these things without asking for Money, and or expecting anything from it except to make a better change...

In May of 2007, Scottie called his Good Friend Bob Hurley on a Monday for Direction, and set up an appointment to meet that Friday... Scottie has had an Overwhelming Yearning to Make a Difference in Sick Kids Lives for Several years now; Starting when He was in LEFTY, meeting with Kids and their Family's at Shows, always taking the time to talk and listen to His New Friends... He also took Kids afflicted with CF to Warped Tour Events (Music Tour) starting in the Summer of 2004, Lunch, Tours at Hurley, and just hanging out, etc... Scottie has seen the Difference that he has been able to make with Kids-Young Adults by sharing His Story and Living By Example Everyday... The Truth is... Kids Freak Out when they Meet Scottie, because He looks and acts So Normal, but has a Port-O-Cath and has the same struggles just like them, and He's now 42 years old... In meeting up with Bob Hurley on the 2nd Friday of May 2007 in search of Direction from His Friend... Bob listened carefully, and then gave Great advice to Scottie... By the end of their meeting, Bob offered to Help in this Journey with Scottie to Reach Out to these Kids In Need on a more Personal level (Bob has Always Given to Many Charity's since He's been a Business Owner throughout the Years)... Hurley is and has Always been a Fun Company that Is the Voice for the Next Generation of Kids, so what Better of a Place to take Living The Dream to then Hurley... Scottie Feels Very Fortunate to be at this place in His Life, to have the Friends that He has, The Health that He Has, and the Opportunities that are ahead for Him, Living The Dream, Hurley and the Millions of Kids that will be positively affected by :LTD)(...

I want to help others to follow this same recipe of Not building their foundation solely on their affliction, but on Who They Are as a Whole Person... Cystic Fibrosis is like the Ocean, and I am like the Sand... It comes in and out of My life like Waves and Helps Shape Me to be The Man that I am Today... But it is not Who I am...
